IMAGE IMMINENT - Public Lecture at Garage Museum for Contemporary Art, Moscow, Oct 2016

Invited by the Garage Museum for Contemporary Art, Moscow, Russia to deliver a Keynote Lecture on the exhibition, Proof —Francisco Goya, Sergei Eisenstein and Robert Longo.

The Public Lecture titled Image Imminent was part of a series of lectures called Image as Power in which artists, writers and curators were asked to respond to the Exhibition.

Image Imminent was a place holder message I received when researching online for a picture relating to this lecture. Like a silent movie’s intertitle, it announced the arrival of the next picture. Today’s society doesn’t like to wait for images, we flip, click, pin and share them. The value of an image has become equally measured by its power to multiply and travel as it is by its uniqueness. This lecture explores image and time, and the journey that Goya, Eisenstein and Longo’s imagery has taken—how it was produced within the limits and innovations of the technology available at their points in history, and how it developed through subsequent translation, reproduction and documentation.

The exhibition toured to The Brooklyn Museum and Deichtorhallen, Hamburg.
