Letters to E.G.H
A series of six letters to E.G.H, Edwin George Harris, my Father. These are the last works in a long running series called Pro Patria, that started 5 yrs ago, with an exhibition at the De La Warr Pavilion. The series began at the same time my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s. As a child I loved watching him sign his name so I asked him to sign a stack of old end papers and have been collaging his name into the work since then. Towards the end of the illness he revealed to me he had once attended art college but was forced to give it up to help support his younger brothers and sisters. He had never revealed this before, so his unknowing inclusion in my work seemed even more fitting. Each one of these collages represent a missed conversation and marks the end of my collection of his signatures.
